Digital Tools That Can Help with DVA Claims

If you’re a veteran thinking about putting in a DVA claim or just trying to make sense of the system, you’re not alone. It can feel confusing, slow and at times, completely overwhelming.

Digital tools DVA claims

Our team at Provocatus doesn’t process claims, but we do talk to a lot of veterans who are on this journey. We’ve found some tools and services can make things a little easier.

Here are some of the official DVA digital tools and veteran services that can help you understand the process, access the right information, and stay on top of your paperwork, health and wellbeing.

MyService (DVA’s Online Portal)

The MyService portal is the DVA’s official online platform. It’s where you go to lodge a claim, update your details, track what’s happening, or apply for travel assistance and health services.

You can access it by logging in through your myGov account on your computer or even your phone. Here you’ll be able to:

  • Submit new claims for compensation or support

  • Check claim progress

  • Access a digital version of your Veteran Card

  • View and show your accepted conditions

  • Download letters or update your contact details

Why it helps
The app makes DVA data you need mobile and quick to reference. It saves time and can avoid the hassle of filling out and posting hardcopy forms.

Need help with the process? Start with a free advocate.

Even if you have submitted a claim without an Advocate you can still get support from numerous agencies around Australia. Many of these are free to Veterans.

These organisations can explain your options, help you gather the right documents, or step in if something goes wrong.

Some well known support services include:
RSL NSW, including RSL LifeCare Veteran Services
Queensland RSL
TPI Associations in each state or territory

You can also visit the DVA’s official advocacy page to find a free advocate in your area.

Now the DVA portal of the MyGov App can carry an electronic version of your card 24/7 in your MyGov ‘wallet’ on your phone. It works even if you don’t have internet access at the time.

To set it up, download the myGov app on your phone, log in to the DVA portal and go to "Add to Wallet". Choose "Veteran Card" and follow the prompts.

You’ll see your name, card type and a scannable barcode. It’s secure and just as valid as your physical card.

Get mental health support early

Starting a DVA claim, especially one involving chronic pain, PTSD, or a service-related injury, can be tough emotionally. Waiting periods, forms, delays and claim rejections can take a toll.

We recommend that veterans have an established relationship with a mental health professional, even before lodging a claim, or at least during this process. They can support you through the emotional ups and downs, and help you cope  if there are issues with your claim.

You can also access free support from Open Arms and other trusted services. You don’t need an accepted claim to access this support.

Also ensure you speak to your local GP and share this journey information with them. They can refer you to a professional who understands what you’re going through.

What we do at Provocatus

We don’t process DVA claims directly, but we’re here to support veterans with access to healthcare, mental health services and chronic pain treatment through the Veteran Access Scheme™. We work with doctors, psychologists and allied health professionals who understand veteran healthcare.

If you're looking for treatment options, or want to talk to someone who understands the journey, our team is here to help.

Moving forward with support

The DVA system can be hard to navigate, especially if you're doing it on your own. There are free tools, advocates and support services that exist to help veterans through it.  There are also paid services that can be accessed and who provide these services for a fee.

With the right tools and the right people beside you, accessing the care you deserve is within reach.
